OVA is launching an innovative research and development project called Automated Segmentation and Labeling of 3D Terrains using Artificial Intelligence in the Aerospace Sector (SEA3IA). SEA3IA will commence with the support of Consortium de recherche et d'innovation en aérospatiale au Québec (CRIAQ) and CIMMI - Imagerie Numérique et Médias Interactifs, the project's affiliate research center. This project utilizes drone imagery to create photorealistic 3D environments, and Gaussian Splatting techniques to enhance the quality and speed of image generation. The creation of realistic 3D environments being costly and time consuming, this project's primary objective is to develop an optimized process for generating photorealistic 3D environments, thus making immersive experiences more accessible.
As demand for high-fidelity digital environments continues to grow across defence, aerospace, infrastructure, and industrial training, SEA3IA will help organizations rapidly generate realistic operational environments for simulation, mission rehearsal, and workforce training.
Beyond improving production workflows, the project explores new AI methodologies for automatically understanding and labeling complex terrain data, laying the foundation for smarter and more adaptive spatial computing applications.
This project not only addresses crucial technological challenges, but also promises to bring significant innovations in the field of immersive technologies. It is expected to accelerate the adoption of VR/XR in various sectors and enable the creation of innovative educational and entertainment tools, benefiting both businesses and consumers.
